Western long necked turtle

Jose and I took a walk with Miski around lake seppings after work today and I commented at the start of the walk that we never see these turtles we see signs for everywhere. And at the end of the walk we found one! He was very tiny and seemed lost. Apparently the adult turtles cross the road in October to lay their eggs at this lake and then the eggs hatch in the winter between May and July. Such a privilege to see one finally!!!

  1. What a little cutie pie! How big are they as adults? I wonder if they always have
their necks out like that or if they retract them. You and Jose did have a bit of luck
    that day! Love, Mom
