concert on cable beach

drove to broome this past sunday for work but also for a concert held on cable beach to protest (unofficially) the gas plant that is schedule to go up soon.  such a shame.  the pigram brothers and friends were there to play for the crowds, and i got to hear some of my favorite songs by them! they were playing on a boat anchored just off shore. the media was there and so were thousands of supporters.  it was incredible. the day was beautiful and the sunset was as stunning as a wet season sunset.  it was one of those days you're even more thankful to be alive.  had a great time in broome, did a little work, a little shopping, and a lot of eating!  went out for japanese at azuki (always yummy) with friends for my bday.  had elderflower water for the first time...and bought a bunch to take home.  mom comes to visit soon!  just a week and a half to go now! i cannot wait!

joined claire and her family for drinks on cable beach (later at zanders) to celebrate her 30th!  we had a great time and her family is awesome.  the sunset was beautiful and the sky after sunset even better. jose and i shared one of our favorite beers (little creatures bright ale) and tried a mule at zanders later. then we went and had dinner at azuki where i got to indulge in my obsession with japanese food and jose got to experience it for the second time. and he loved it! what a relief he likes it...might have had some serious problems if he didn't :)

miski's first trip to the beach!

woke up super early saturday morning, packed some things up, shuffled a sleepy puppy into the car and drove to cable beach in broome. miski has not really enjoyed water so i was surprised how much she loved the ocean.  she played in the water and chased the waves for over an hour. after that we took her to the markets, grabbed a breaky wrap and then went to a friend's house to clean up and have a much needed nap while miski played with her favorite doggy friend.

flight to perth

woke up lazily on thursday and had a walk on cable beach, which was gorgeous. then ate a lovely breakfast at ra ra's.  it was jose's first time there, my fourth. he got the mexican omelette and i had eggs bene. so yum!  he also got a milkshake, which was fantastic. then we went to the tiny airport and got on our 2 1/2 hour flight to perth.  uneventful and rather nice.  we had a beautiful view of broome as we departed.  got into perth and emmett picked us up which was so nice! we went to his brothers house where we were to stay. lovely place and his family is great!  we went out to a place called the flipside and the stanley in wembley. it's a great burger joint next to a pub.  we had great beer (white rabbit and some belgium stuff) and to die for burgers. heaven!  slept like a log. more photos here Perth 2011

sarah's visit (her pics)

sarah's visit was great, as mentioned in an earlier post.  she took some seriously amazing photos while here, using her new SLR digital camera! since i have been whining about wanting one i was very excited to see her pics!  and now i am sold...can't wait to get one!  more photos under the Derby 2011 Album.

so broome was amazing.  sarah and i got to really experience some serious luxury while we were there. got in very early on wednesday. sadly 12 mile was closed that day but that meant we got to eat at ra ra's which was spectacular and had a bali theme...how appropriate.  our food was delicious and the atmosphere amazing.  we then did some shopping around town. i got jose two great shirts and nothing for myself.  how unusual!  though i did put in an order for a fab dress (shhhh).  and i found what i want for my birthday...which i am telling jose about of course :)  then we went to our hotel a bit early (bali hai) and were treated to the lap of luxury. we had a free upgrade to a two bedroom deluxe villa.  it was amazing.  we then went to the spa and got two for one deals on massages. i had a 90 min deep tissue massage that i fell asleep during.  sarah had a pearl paradise package.  heaven. when done we cleaned up and went out to see the sunset at gantheume point.  beautiful as always, it was swarming with dragon flies.  freaked sarah out, but i can't say anything since she defended me the spiders as i squealed in fright on the joonjoo trail.  anyway had a lovely time there and then went to azuki for the best asian meal i've had in ages! we got tazmanian salmon sushi, prawn and corn gyozas with citrus dipping sauce and pumpkin and tofu tempura soup.  for dessert it was flourless chocolate cake with black sesame seed ice cream and i was in total heaven.  good thing i do not live here - i would be completely broke.  went back to the hotel and watched my kitchen rules, and passed out early!  next day we ate at kool spot which was awesome. then showed her cable beach where there were lots of tiny jelly fish out and about.  nothing scary or anything. just cute!  then i dropped her at the airport. she was going to melbourne and then back home after that. what an amazing couple of days with her!  so sad to see her go. it was such a treat to see a bit of home out here in the kimberley.  see many many more photos here Derby 2011

happy new years day 2011!

because we actually got some rest, emmett and i woke up at the crack of dawn. jose wasn't very impressed but he was coaxed him out of bed with paneton (peruvian christmas cake) and coffee.  leisurely breakfast and then we all headed down to cable beach for a dip in the water. no jellyfish right now and it was an absolutely gorgeous day. hot as hell and humid, but the sky was unbelievable.  had a lovely dip and a walk on the beach. i collected shells of course. a beautiful start to the new year.  happy 2011 everyone. best wishes and love for the new year....though most of you back home haven't had new years yet!  see all our new years photos here: new years album

Broome, new job, 100 degree weather, and more!

it's been a bit since we wrote last...i've been super busy getting oriented to my new and intense job in the kimberley.   Everyone here is great, super fun, nice and easy to collaborate with.  The weather here is really hot, almost 100 degrees most days, and now it's almost wet season so it'll get even hotter!  The food here has been really yummy (expensive though) and the local brewery is fantastic.  The beaches are so blue, clear, warm and fun to swim in. Luckily it is safe to swim here (until november when the jellies come out) and we are getting our fill before heading to Derby today where we can't go in the water at all because of the crocs. I drove on the left side of the road yesterday which felt super weird.  to my delight they even have a target here which i fully intend to check out today!  can't wait to see our new digs in Derby this evening.
